Liberace, the diamond-encrusted piano man and star of television and stage, was known for many things: his lavish shows, his ability to tickle the ivories and, perhaps most of all, his style. The jewelry, the sequenced suits and, of course, his classic 1970s eyewear.
Michael Douglas portrays the iconic musician in an HBO original movie, “Behind the Candelabra,” which premiers Sunday. The film, set in the late 70s, tells the story of Liberace’s relationship with his much younger male lover played by Matt Damon and like any good period piece it features Old Focals eyewear — and plenty of it.
Old Focals founder Russ Campbell contributed hundreds of frames from his collection to the filming including ones worn by Douglas, Damon and Dan Aykroyd, who plays Liberace’s long-time agent Seymour Heller.
“Trying to catch the glitz and the glamour of the Liberace era, Old Focals provided hundreds of pairs of glasses to achieve the desired look for the film,” Campbell said. “There was no shortage of choices.”
